Greetings colleagues and friends!

It is an honour and a privilege to assume the role of President of the Caribbean College of Surgeons. I am deeply grateful to our immediate past president, Dr. Cameron Wilkinson, and his team for their outstanding contributions to the College during his term.

Along with the new administrative team, we will continue building on the foundations laid down by the past presidents of the Caribbean College of Surgeons: Sir Professor Errol Walrond, Professor Vijay Naraynsingh, Dr Deen Sharma, Dr Ramesh Jonallagadda, and Dr. Cameron Wilkinson. Their hard work has laid a robust foundation upon which the College will continue to build.

In this endeavour, I look forward to working with the new administrative team: Dr Charles Greenidge (Vice President), Dr. Wesley Francis (Secretary), Dr. Charles Warner (Treasurer) and the members of the executive who represent territories across the Caribbean region.

We must recognize that over the past few years, there have been tremendous changes that forced us to change the way we practice, teach and learn surgery. I am pleased to see the way the College responded to navigate these increasingly complex issues and challenging times.

Moving forward, we seek to provide more opportunities for meaningful engagement, innovative programmes for continued professional development, outreach opportunities, and encouragement of research in the Caribbean region and beyond.

Thank you to our members for their continued enthusiasm and support of the Caribbean College of Surgeons, and also to our sponsors for their unwavering support. I look forward to welcoming you all to the 2023 Annual Symposium in Belize, Central America.

Professor Shamir Cawich
President
Caribbean College of Surgeons
